Sketch Evolution brought Hong Kong Dance Company to Sydney for their spectacular Australian premiere with the production The Legend of Mulan. Presented in New York and Hong Kong earlier in 2015, this inspiring story tells the ancient Chinese legend of Mulan, a young peasant girl, who bravely disguises herself as a man, to take the place of her elderly father in battle.
A story known to many through the 1998 Disney film, The Legend of Mulan is a tale of strength, honour and courage by one of China’s legendary warrior women. Mulan is portrayed as a fearless defender of her country and family in Yang Yuntao’s superb choreography, which combines contemporary and traditional Chinese dance. Yang, who is also Artistic Director has a bold and original approach “Art is about being original, creative and new”.
The Legend Of Mulan has received critical acclaim, winning the Outstanding Production and Outstanding Ensemble Performance categories at the 2014 Hong Kong Dance Awards.

The Legend of Mulan played for a limited season of only 4 performances from 17-19 September, 2015 at The Concourse Theatre in Chatswood, Sydney.
