Project: Ballet Under The Stars
Role: Project Management
Year: 2016
Client: The Australian Ballet

Each year, The Australian Ballet presents a free outdoor community performance; Ballet Under The Stars. This outdoor event is a highlight of The Australian Ballet’s yearly program and has previously been held in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra.

From 2016 to 2018, Ballet Under The Stars will be staged in Western Sydney as part of a three year agreement with the lead state government agency for tourism and major events, Destination NSW. In 2016, this was also supported by Penrith City Council and presented at the ex-Olympic venue, Sydney International Regatta Centre.

The program included ACT II of Stephen Baynes’ Swan Lake, ballet’s greatest love story. By a moonlit lake, a grieving prince witnesses the transformation of a swan into a beautiful princess. Compelled by an evil spell to spend her days in the form of a bird, she can only be saved by the power of love. Swan Lake is a thrill for ballet fans and first-time audiences alike. The company also performed a selection of divertissements (a selection of bite-sized works) that showcase the speed, athleticism, diversity and grace of the dancers including a world premiere of the Spartacus Pas de deux by Lucas Jervies, and a performance from The Nutcracker.

Sketch Evolution was engaged to provide Project Management services to The Australian Ballet for Ballet Under The Stars 2016 from event planning and organisation through to delivery.

Project management included budget forecasting and tracking management, engagement of providers, technical production, site operations, risk and safety, stakeholder liaison and integration into The Australian Ballet’s marketing, ticketing, PR, production and external relations departments in coordinating the event.
